Why Social Security Disability Judges Deny Cases with Medical Evidence?

I explain why a Social Security disability judge may deny a case even when you have medical records showing a real problem: there’s often a disconnect between your symptoms, what the objective evidence shows, what judges expect to see for a “winning” impairment, and a lack of doctor commentary about specific work limitations.

Using a back pain example, I describe how complaints like severe pain, numbness, and dysfunction may not match an MRI showing only bulging discs with no stenosis or nerve root impingement, no nerve studies, and no functional capacity evaluation from a specialist.

Judges typically expect more extensive findings and treatment (therapy, injections, pain management, surgical consults) and will deny when the record doesn’t support the alleged severity.
